To configure your Yahoo email account manually in the Outlook 2010 email client, you have to know the incoming and outgoing mail server details.

Incoming mail server – You can use either IMAP or POP as the incoming mail server. POP downloads a copy of your email message. You can delete any emails without affecting the respective original email. But, IMAP allows 2-way syncing. It means, if you delete any email message, it will be reflected in your Yahoo mail server as well.

Outgoing mail server – SMTP helps to forward email messages from your email client. The incoming and outgoing mail servers details of the Yahoo Mail account are given here for your reference.

Incoming Mail Server

  1. Server name – imap.mail.yahoo.com (IMAP) or pop.mail.yahoo.com (POP)
  2. Port – 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP)
  3. SSL – Required

Outgoing Mail Server

  1. Server name – smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  2. Port – 465 or 587
  3. SSL/TLS – Required
  4. Authentication – Required

Login Information

  • Email address – Your Yahoo Mail email address
  • Password – Your Yahoo Mail password

Step 1:

Launch the Microsoft Outlook 2010 email client.

Step 2:

Click the File tab followed by the Add Account button.

Step 3:

Click the radio button beside the ‘Manually configure server settings or additional server types’ option.

Select the Next option to proceed.

Step 4:

Click the radio button beside the Internet Email option and select the Next option.

Step 5:

User Information

  1. Your Name – Your display name
  2. Email Address – Your Yahoo Mail email address
  3. Server Information
  4. Account Type – Choose IMAP or POP
  5. Incoming mail server – pop.mail.yahoo.com (POP) or imap.mail.yahoo.com (IMAP)
  6. Outgoing mail server (SMTP) – smtp.mail.yahoo.com
  7. Logon Information
  8. User Name – Your Yahoo Mail email address
  9. Password – Your Yahoo Mail password
  10. Select the checkbox beside the ‘Remember Password’ and ‘Test Account Settings by clicking the Next button’ options.
  11. For additional server settings, click More Settings.

Step 6:

Outgoing Server

  1. The following two options should be selected.
    • My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication
    • Use the same settings as my incoming mail server

Advanced

  1. Incoming server – 993 (IMAP) or 995 (POP)
  2. Outgoing server (SMTP) – 465
  3. Choose the SSL encryption type for both the incoming and outgoing servers.

Note: If you choose the TLS encryption type for the outgoing server, type 587 in the Outgoing server (SMTP) field.

Step 7:

  • Select the OK option followed by the Next option.
  • Once you see the ‘You have successfully entered all the information required to setup your account’ message, click Finish to exit the email setup wizard.
